Research-Based Overview

Model Y L delivery dates right nowAs of October 18, 2026, Tesla’s US configurator quotes January–March 2027 for new Model Y L Launch Series orders, and some buyers are seeing February–April. A number of people who ordered soon after launch have also had fall delivery dates pushed back three to four months, while others are already taking delivery. Tesla hasn’t explained why.

If you were hoping to have a six-seat Tesla for the holidays, the timing just got harder. Here’s what has changed, what’s known and not known, and what’s worth doing while you wait.

What changed

Tesla opened US orders for the Model Y L on July 2, 2026, with a single Premium AWD Launch Series trim at $61,990 plus a $1,390 destination fee. Early orders were quoted September–October delivery, and the first cars did start reaching owners in September.

In mid-October that picture shifted. EV analyst Sawyer Merritt flagged on October 18 that the configurator had moved new orders to a January–March 2027 window, and Not a Tesla App reported the next day that some customers who had expected their cars this fall were seeing dates pushed out by months. One reader due for a mid-October delivery told the site theirs had moved three to four months later.

Why it’s happening

Tesla hasn’t commented. The odd part is that it isn’t consistent: some early orders slipped while other buyers from the same weeks are getting their cars now. Supply or production constraints are the most common explanation in the reporting, but nothing official confirms it, so treat any specific reason you see online as a guess.

What to do while you wait

  • Watch your estimate in the Tesla app. It’s the only number that reflects your order, and it can move earlier as well as later.
  • Get home charging sorted now. If you need a 240V outlet or a wall charger installed, a few months is plenty of time to get quotes and an electrician. Our home charging setup guide and ChargePoint install cost breakdown cover the options.
  • Hold off on cut-to-fit gear. Model Y L floor mats are starting to show up online, but mostly from small brands so far. Established makers we trust haven’t listed Model Y L sets yet, and Model Y parts won’t fit the longer cabin. We track what actually fits in our Model Y L accessories guide.
  • Check the car seat situation early. If you’re planning to put a car seat in the second-row captain’s chairs, read your seat maker’s instructions for the Model Y L before delivery. Our Model Y L family overview explains why, and a certified child passenger safety technician (CPST) can check your specific seat once the car arrives.

If you haven’t ordered yet

An early-2027 delivery is still a real option for a family that needs six seats, especially since nothing else Tesla sells offers the same layout at this price now that the Model X has ended production. If you need a car sooner, the standard five-seat Model Y is the faster path; our Model Y vs. Model Y L comparison walks through what you give up and what you gain, and our Model Y L trunk and cargo guide shows how much room the third row actually leaves.

Tesla Model Y L delivery: Frequently Asked Questions

When will my Tesla Model Y L be delivered?

Tesla’s US configurator was quoting January–March 2027 for new Launch Series orders as of October 18, 2026, and some buyers are seeing February–April. Your own estimate is in the Tesla app, and it can move in either direction, so check it there rather than relying on general reporting.

Why is the Model Y L delayed?

Tesla hasn’t said. Some buyers who ordered soon after the July launch have had fall delivery dates pushed back three to four months, while others from the same period are already getting their cars. Supply or production limits are possible explanations, but Tesla hasn’t confirmed a reason.

Is the Model Y L sold out?

No. Tesla is still taking US orders for the Launch Series. The trade-off is the wait: new orders are being quoted early-2027 delivery windows.
