The short answer: the standard Model Y and the Premium share the same body and range class; the difference is almost all inside. The Premium adds the 8-inch rear screen, heated power-folding rear seats, ventilated front seats, vegan leather with a white option, an open glass roof and ambient lighting for about a few thousand dollars more. For families who drive long distances, the rear screen and heated rear seats are the two that matter most. Which one for a family?
Choose the Premium if you take long drives with young kids (the rear screen earns its keep), live somewhere cold (heated rear seats), or want the white interior. Choose the standard Model Y if most trips are short and local, you’d rather spend the difference on a car seat and road-trip gear, or black-only is fine. Either way, the back seat fits the same car seats; see the seats we use.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between the Tesla Model Y Standard and Premium?
Mostly inside: the Premium adds the 8-inch rear screen, heated power-folding rear seats, ventilated front seats, vegan leather seats with a white option, an open glass roof, ambient lighting and acoustic front glass. The standard Model Y keeps the same body and 15.4-inch main screen with simpler materials and a black interior.
Is the Tesla Model Y Premium worth it for a family?
For long drives with young kids, usually yes: the rear screen and heated rear seats are the two features families use most. For short local trips, the standard Model Y gives up little that matters day to day.
Does the standard Model Y have the glass roof?
The glass is there on the outside, but inside it’s covered by a fabric headliner, so you don’t get the open-roof feel.
Do I get Full Self-Driving with a referral?
Tesla’s current referral offer is a free month of Full Self-Driving (Supervised) when you use a referral link, for new buyers and eligible current Tesla owners. Offers change; check Tesla’s current terms.

Does the Model Y Premium have the rear screen?
Yes. The Premium has an 8-inch touchscreen for the back seat. The Standard has no rear screen.
