We got the Fanttik V8 Mate when we got the Model Y, and it’s been in the car ever since. We use it about once a week. Here’s what it’s like to keep a small cordless vacuum in a family car, with photos of ours.
Short answer
The V8 Mate is a small, light cordless handheld (Fanttik lists it at 1.07 lb) that handles what a car vacuum actually needs to: crumbs, dirt on the seats, seat tracks and floor mats. The flexible hose is the attachment we use most, and it charges over USB-C, so it can top up in the car. It’s not a shop vac and doesn’t try to be. For a Model Y with a kid in it, it’s the right size to actually keep in the car and actually use.
Why we picked it
A car vacuum only helps if it’s in the car. A full-size cordless tends to stay in the garage. The V8 Mate is small enough to keep in the car, light enough to hold in one hand while you lean over a car seat, and ready when you are.
What it’s good at
Crumbs and snack debris. That’s the daily reality of a family car, and it’s what this is for.
Seat tracks and crevices. The flexible hose is the attachment we use most. It gets into the spots around the car seat, the seat tracks and the seams where crumbs collect.
Floor mats. It’s also good for the sand and dirt that end up on the mats.
What it’s not for
A deep clean. Amazon’s own listing says it’s compact and not meant for large areas, and that matches how we use it. For a full interior detail you’ll want something bigger. The V8 Mate is for the in-between cleanups.
Battery and charging
Fanttik lists about 17 minutes of runtime on high and 30 on low. It charges over USB-C, which means it can charge from any of the car’s USB-C ports while you drive. That’s handy compared with vacuums that need their own dock.
Attachments
It comes with a flexible hose, a crevice nozzle, brush heads and a carry bag (Fanttik lists nine attachments in total). We use the hose most. The bag keeps everything together in the trunk well.
V8 Mate vs. V8 Apex
Fanttik also makes the V8 Apex, which adds more features. We haven’t tried it, so we can’t say how the two compare.
Who should buy it
Model Y owners who want a vacuum that stays in the car and gets used. Parents especially.
Who shouldn’t
If you want a vacuum for full interior details, or you already own a good cordless stick vacuum you’ll actually carry out to the car, you can skip it.
