What should be in a winter emergency kit for a Tesla Model Y?
Mostly the same things as any car, plus two Tesla-specific gaps: there’s no spare tire, so carry a tire inflator and a plug kit, and the big glass roof needs a soft snow brush. Add a warm blanket, traction mats, a first aid kit and a headlamp, and keep the battery above about 20% on cold days.
Why a Tesla kit is a little different
- No spare tire. A Model Y comes with no spare, so a flat on a cold night means an inflator and a plug kit, or a tow.
- Heat without an engine. If you’re stuck, the cabin heater runs from the battery and there’s no exhaust, so you can stay warm while you wait. It does use range, so keep an eye on the battery.
- Glass roof and cameras. A soft foam snow brush clears the roof without scratching, and the cameras need clearing too before Autopilot features work.

WOLFBOX HF19 Cordless Tire Inflator
Research pickBudget pick · cordless, palm-sized, digital auto-stop · 4.8★ from about 100 reviews
$54.9921% off today on Amazon · price as of 2026-10-31The budget alternative: Wolfbox’s HF19 is about half the price of the Fanttik and small enough for the glovebox, with a digital gauge that stops at the pressure you set. It has far fewer reviews than the Fanttik, so we list it as a research pick; the Fanttik is still our main recommendation.
For a nail or screw in the tread. Some Model Y tires have sound-dampening foam inside, which can make plugging harder, so treat a plug as a way to get to a tire shop.

Before a winter drive

Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Tesla Model Y come with a spare tire?
No. A Model Y comes without a spare, which is why a tire inflator and plug kit belong in a winter kit.
Can you stay warm in a Tesla if you get stuck in snow?
Yes, the heater runs from the battery and there is no exhaust. It uses range, so keep an eye on the battery and add a blanket to stretch it.
What snow brush is safe for a Tesla glass roof?
A soft foam head is the safest choice. Avoid hard bristles and metal scrapers on the roof glass.
