Quick verdict: Spigen Door Pocket Trash Can

Ask us which Model Y accessory gets used the most and the answer isn’t the floor mats or the screen protector. It’s an inexpensive trash can that lives in the driver’s door pocket. We’ve had the Spigen door pocket trash can in our Model Y for several months, and it gets used more often than we expected. It also helps keep the car clean. Here’s why, with photos from our car.

Short answer
The Model Y has no trash can, and the deep door pockets, cup holders and floor end up collecting every wrapper, tissue and straw sleeve. The Spigen can drops into the driver-side door pocket, the lid stays shut over bumps, it empties in seconds, and it turns “where does this go?” into a non-question. It’s the most used and most underrated accessory we own.
Why a car with a 16-inch screen still needs a trash can
Tesla designed the Model Y with plenty of storage and nowhere to put garbage. With a kid in the back, that matters more than it sounds. Our can collects tissues, snack wrappers, wipes, receipts, straw covers, chewed gum and gum wrappers: all the small stuff that otherwise finds its way to the floor mats or the bottom of a cup holder. Before the can, the passenger footwell was the trash can. Now the car stays clean between vacuums, and the weekly vacuum takes half as long.
Fit in the Model Y door pocket
We keep ours in the driver’s door pocket, where it’s easiest to reach from the seat. It drops in and stays put: no adhesive, no straps, and it hasn’t shifted or rattled in months of daily driving. The lid clears the door armrest and doesn’t interfere with the window switches or the door release. The pocket still has room beside it for our J1772 adapter holder.

Living with it
The lid stays shut. Speed bumps, potholes, the trunk-full-of-groceries slam of the door: nothing has popped it open. That matters because the whole point is not seeing the trash.
Emptying takes seconds. Lift it out of the pocket, tip it into a bin, drop it back in. No liner needed, although a small bag fits if you’d rather not touch the inside.
Capacity is right-sized. It’s small enough to disappear into the pocket and big enough for a few days of family driving. On a road trip it fills faster, but it also empties at every stop.

What we don’t love
We looked for a complaint and didn’t find one. The honest downside is the same as any small bin: it’s small, so it won’t swallow a fast-food bag. For that, keep a back-seat organizer with a trash pocket. For everything else, this is the one.
Who should buy it
Anyone driving a Model Y with kids, snacks, or a coffee habit. If you’ve ever fished a gum wrapper out of the cup holder at a red light, that’s you.
Who shouldn’t
If you keep a bag hanging off the shifter and it works for you, you don’t need this. There’s no shifter in a Model Y, though, which is partly why we bought one.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does the Spigen trash can fit the 2026 Model Y door pocket?
Yes, on the driver’s side. Ours is in a 2026 Model Y Premium. Amazon lists this version for Juniper Premium and Performance (2025–2027) and the Model Y L, driver-side door pocket only, so check the listing for your exact trim before you buy.
Does it need adhesive or straps?
No. It sits in the pocket by its own shape and weight and hasn’t moved in months.
Can it go in the other door pockets?
This one is made for the driver-side front pocket only. For the back seat, a seat-back organizer with a trash pocket is the better answer.
Do I need liners?
No. The inside is smooth plastic and wipes clean, and the lid is magnetic. A small produce bag fits if you want one.
